It feels like it's never the right time to start what you want.
Anyone creating anything new knows the feeling of excitement about a new idea to create a product or solve a problem. The excitement is always short-lived.
You have two options when you're that excited: use that energy to start on that idea or solution right away, or make a plan to do that tomorrow.
I'm guilty of falling for the second option many times. In the moment, you're already doing many things, you're overwhelmed, and tomorrow feels so much cleaner.
But tomorrow comes and inevitably the day is already messy, and you think the next day is going to be better, and the cycle continues.
A lot of times, energy comes when you actually start working. Seeing something forming from your work gives you more energy to move forward. This means you don't need to have all the motivation to complete the work right at the beginning. You just need enough motivation to do the next step.
It's something that makes sense logically but is hard emotionally.
The real enemy is within yourself. It's that voice that says you're not ready yet, that says don't start until you're ready. And then you postpone it to tomorrow and the next day and the next day.
And before you know it, weeks and months have passed, and you keep wondering why you have not started.
So the next time you're stuck in the cycle of telling yourself that you'll start tomorrow, take the first step right now and make progress, however small it may be.
